WVSDA's training program runs throughout the year offering free or affordable courses to WVSDA members based in the London Borough of Wandsworth on a variety of topics relevant to voluntary organisations, such as governance, fundraising, finance and volunteering. This workshop looks at the factors that affect how confidently you deliver any presentation by offering simple, easy to practice tools to help you cope with nerves, get your message across memorably, structure your material for the best impact and present effectively to audiences of varied sizes.
Please note that this workshop is split into two parts and you need to be able to attend both sessions.

In this session you will learn why your organisation may need to carry out Criminal Record Bureau (CRB) checks and which prospective employees or volunteers need to be checked. You will learn the process and procedures you will need to follow. Issues about the storage and handling of confidential information will also be discussed.
This course is designed for staff and Trustees who are responsible for safeguarding policies within an organisation. It is a requirement for organisations wishing to have CRB checks undertaken by WVSDA. For more information on this service please see our CRB Checks page.

Making sure that volunteers are able to grow and develop in their roles and at the same time making sure that the organisation is benefiting from the use of volunteers can be a tricky balancing act. This workshop will explore the role of support and supervision of volunteers and how to ensure best practice in your volunteer programme.

It is becoming more important to work together with other organisations so that local communities can be served more effectively. It can also open doors to different sources of funding through partnership bids. To make the most of these benefits, it is important to learn about the potential pitfalls and how to avoid them. This workshop covers how you can start to make contact with these other organisations and put systems in places to ensure effective partnerships in the future.

In this session we will be introducing one of the most popular Big Lottery funds, the Reaching Communities programme. Reaching Communities funds projects that help people and communities who are most in need, and can really make a difference. Projects can be new or existing activities, or be the core work of your organisation. The budget for Reaching Communities will be at least £100 million each year until 2013. This programme makes grants of between £10,000 and £500,000, and funds projects for up to 5 years.
This session will cover:
1. The improvements BIG has introduced to improve the application process.
2. Who is eligible to apply and what types of projects are likely to be funded.
3. The Reaching Communities application process.
4. What is the key assessment criteria used by BIG.

Volunteering is usually a positive experience for both the individual and the organisation, but from time to time things can go wrong such as boundaries being broken and the breakdown of staff/volunteer relationships. This workshop will look at how difficult situations arise and techniques for dealing with them in a fair and consistent way. It covers:
♦ Identifying behaviour related to low self esteem
♦ Identifying Satir communication skills
♦ How to manage difficult behaviour
♦ Identifying your conflict style
♦ How to use conflict strategies
There will also be an opportunity to discuss any issues that your organisation may be facing at the moment.

1. Write your outline proposal while getting expert help.
2. Learn more about evidencing need, setting outcomes and milestones.
3. Learn more about full cost recovery.
4. Get advice on your draft proposal.

Bespoke or tailor-made training is provided to groups on request and by prior arrangement with one of our trainers. Topics can include issues around the management of your organisation and can be of a practical hands-on nature to suite your needs. Examples of training sessions provided are:
